I am not easily swept into the vortex of televesion. As a kid, we watched plenty of it but for some reason in adulthood (probably due to there only be 24 hours in a day, how rude) it’s not something I think about.
But every once in a while, there’s a show that’s surprisingly enjoyable and it’s a massive bonus if it’s something that can be watched as a family. Recently, that show has been Is It Cake?. At first glance, it appears to be a goofy (yet insanely impressive) competition where bakers create hyper-realistic cakes that look like everyday objects, but there is most definitely more to it. Watching this with my 7-year-old son—who was the one to tell me about it—has sparked not only interest and time together but some surprising life lessons—for both he and I.
